your local speaker

Sophie doing a school talk and food demo in Swindon (closer up) Sophie Fenwick-Paul has been on The Vegetarian Society speakers list for many years and enjoys giving lively interactive talks, cookery demonstrations and workshops to groups of any size within reasonable travelling distance of Reading.

"Thank you so much for the talk last Friday. Brilliant and has really made the kids think and question. Good DVD as well. Will send that back to you today as last group watching as I write.
We have done a number of lessons following your talk and the pupils are cooking a vegan meal for their next practical."

Sophie is also a registered speaker for Viva!.

She is happy to cover any and all aspects of vegetarianism, including vegan issues, through her wide knowledge of the subject. She has given many interviews for the local media and press and is happy to do so on request.

Her husband Stephen, and friends such as Ginny the VegSoc local contact, can often be on hand to help out, especially with larger groups and workshops.

Please contact us with as much notice as possible.

further information sources

Thames Valley Veggies is here as your local contact point for anything veggie. Take a look at the rest of our website if you want to know what this area has to offer. From local restaurants to making vegan versions of your favourite recipes.

Try popping into your local library where there are always veggie and vegan cookbooks, as well as vegetarian guide books and other publications on vegetarian and animal issues. Public library databases are worth searching for further items that can be reserved from other local libraries.

Have a look round the whole of the Internet, as there is a great deal out there, so much so that it can help to have pointers to some of the best.

The following organisations all provide well researched information on vegetarian issues and food. They have great websites, and also handy written materials you can download or send off for including some specifically for schools and projects, as well as excellent people to talk to.

  • the Vegetarian Society - an ideal starting point. Ask to be put in touch with their youth contact who will reply to emails from pupils and teachers personally if you have any questions.
  • the Vegan Society - with a searchable website and source of the excellent "Why Vegan" booklet. They are currently building educational materials aimed at schools. For going and being vegan see their Kids Zone and Teen Vegan pages, and the page for parents of vegans.
  • Viva! - for compelling information on animal welfare issues, as well as good resources on going veggie/vegan.

And there are many more such as:

  • Vegan Society Youth Contacts - click on "youth contacts" and you will get a list of youthful vegans happy to help other young people with vegan and veggie info and support.
  • the International Vegetarian Union has a wide range of international resource information in many languages, including an extensive list of famous veggies.
