The Back of Beyond - Reading

Before you start feeling hungry this place is not great for vegan food and not a lot better for veggie food either. The menu highlight is the veggie burger which is reportedly vegan.

Other than that its chips and salad I believe.

(There are a few cheese based thing that are labelled veggie but I don't know if the cheese and eggs meet the critera.)

BUT we list it for its good range of vegan bottled beers and ciders.

Here are those which we think are good:

  • Leffe Blond
  • Budweiser
  • Budvar (might just be veggie)
  • Staropramen
  • Becks
  • Westons Oakwood cider
  • Organic Vintage cider
  • Old Rosie cider

Keeping up with the vegan status of beers is a nightmare, so if things change please let us know.

And, of course, its Reading's only smoke-free pub.

They hardly do any Vegan friendly food. Most of their dishes are pre-made and frozen before delivery to the pubs!!!

We visit this pub about once a month.

It is a typical JDWetherspoons, superb value, great choice of drinks, nut roast on Sundays.

They now have Plasma TV's no sound so not so bad.
