2007 RSPCA Good Business Award - err?
The Swan Inn at Hungerford has received the 2007 RSPCA Good Business Award in the restaurant category - Achieving Higher Standards for Animal Welfare - it is just a pity that they kill so many animals.
The vegetarian community has often wondered at the confusing message the RSCPA has put forward about how humans should treat other animals. If the RSPCC followed the RSPCA's example we would all be tucking into:
Organic Child Breast
Children Fillet* stuffed with Sundried Tomatoes and Cointreau Wrapped in Berkshire toddler meat with a Creamy Mushroom Sauce
or
Marrocan Kid Tagine
Slow Roasted Shoulder of child* with Prunes and Almonds Served with an Apricot, Raisin and Almond Couscous
.. to mis-quote The Swan's current menu. Is it not the ultimate act of cruelty to eat these sentient (PDF) and intelligent beings?
The Swan boasts it butchers its own meat, but strangely there are no pictures of the process on their web site.
Next year's winners
If the RSPCA want to put forward a more logical choice for their award next year they should consider those on Thames Valley Veggies favorites list with Cafe Iguana and Aangan being the obvious choices as they are totally vegetarian - and for the RSPCA's information, that means they don't kill animals - how's that for prevention of cruelty.
